How to Get to Malcesine

Malcesine is situated on the eastern shore towards the north end of the lake. It's probably best reached via the northern routes through from Rovereto off the north-south motorway route between Austria and Verona.

Travel to Malcesine

Travel by Car

Drivers approaching Malcesine from the west are advised to use the A4/E70 motorway which stretches from Venice to Milan. The exit for the eastern shore of Lake Garda is situated in between Brescia and Verona. The exit is marked Peschiera and leads north along the lakeshore through Bardolino and Garda.

Drivers coming from the north should exit the A22/E45 from the Austrian border at Rovereto Sud / Lago di Garda Nord and travel through the mountains to Torbole before heading south to Malcesine.

This is also the most promising route for those heading from the east and south, who should take the route to the north towards Austria after the exits for Verona and then leave the motorway at the Rovereto Sud junction as above.

Distances
Milan 184km - northeast to Bergamo and then past Brescia to the motorway exit at Peschiera
Venice 214km - past Padua, Vicenza and Verona to the motorway exit at Rovereto Sud
Verona 96km - north on the motorway to Rovereto Sud

From Rovereto the buses of Trentino Trasporti offer a shuttle service to the northern end of the lake where a connection can be made at Torbole onto the ATV services. Travel by Ferry

Malcesine actually has two stops for the lake ferry - Malcesine Centro and Malcesine Traghetto.

As the name suggests, Malcesine Centro is located just to the south of the old town, in the harbour area. Passenger ferries leave Centro in a northerly direction towards Limone, Torbole and Riva del Garda. To the south they head across the lake towards towns such as Gardone Riviera and Salò, before crossing back to Garda and Bardolino.

Car ferries leave from Malcesine Traghetto, which is located to the north of the town along the coastal road. The only service is to Limone Traghetto on the western shore of the lake. The car ferries also start in Malcesine Centro, where only passengers are allowed to embark.
